Trowbridge & District Football League

Despite an improvement in the weather over the last week, the League saw just Five of it’s planned League fixtures over it’s two divisions overcome the elements, compared to 9 the previous week when the conditions were much worse.

Holt dropped 2 unexpected points at home to Freshford United and in doing so missed out on the chance to move to within one point of joint leaders Seend United and Semington Magpies at the top of the table. At the other end of the table a victory for Dilton Marsh Wanderers saw them to to 8 points with the Stiffs.

Avon Valley suffered a set back in their bid to catch Durrington at the top of the table after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Trowbridge Town Tigers. Elsewhere Trowbridge Wanderers ended a winless run that stretched back to October and Bishops Cannings Reserves avenged a 4-1 defeat to Staverton Rangers.

A 6-2 victory for Semington Magpies away at Hilperton Greyhound coupled with Seend United being in A&B Cup action means that Magpies moved level with the defending champions at the top of the table. Frome Collegians strolled to an 8-2 win at home over the Stiffs while a Dan Birleson goal saw Freshford United beat Dilton Marsh Wanderers 1-0.

Avon Valley FC dropped to valuable points in their bid to catch runaway Division two leaders Durrington after being held at home by Bromham.
Two second half penalties see South Newton & Barford Hornets down Pilot FC and a depleted Staverton Rangers conjure up a 6-1 win over Trowbridge Wanderers.

Another week of bad weather led to all bar one of the Trowbridge League First Division matches being postponed due to frozen pitches.

Thanks to the efforts of a number of people, who know who they are, their quick thinking to get their scheduled Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge League, Division Two matches switched from grass to 3G save the day as it avoided a total wipeout.
