The Second Division’s early pacesetters Freshford United saw they lead at the top of the table cut by The Stiffs, who closed the gap on Chris Birleson’s side to 2 points.  Elsewhere in the division, Calne Eagles and Dilton Marsh Wanderers battle out a 1-1 draw and there were victories for The Stiffs and Trowbridge Town Tigers. 

There may have only been two matches in the Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored Trowbridge & District League First Division on Saturday afternoon, however the results of those two games would have been seen as something of a surprise, especially the one at the Show Ground, Frome where hosts Frome Collegians Reserves defeated FC Devizes United 7-1 to all but bring an end to their hopes of back-to-back titles before they had really began.

With the top clubs in facing off against in the Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, Second Division facing off against each other, the big winners of the day were current leaders Freshford United whose 6-1 victory away at Holt who stated the day in fourth spot, coupled with a draw between second and third placed The Stiffs and Calne Eagles, means that the villagers stretched the gap at the summit to 5 points.

Bradford Town Reserves dropped their first points of the season in the Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge & District League, First Division, their draw couple with a 2-1 victory for table toppers Seend United away at Melksham Town Development, means that Andy Dyer’s villagers stretched their lead at the top of the table to 5 points, albeit they have played two more games more than Ross Pugh’s side.

Semington Magpies suffered a first defeat of the season in the Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, Second Division.  Neil Taylor’s side were stunned by a Hilperton Greyhound side who may have ageing legs, but with experienced old heads, led by the ever youthful Matty Hall they fashioned a very impressive 4-1 win at Magpies, Little Marsh base.

Andy Dyer’s, Seend United are the current leaders of the  Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge & District League, First Division, but it’s second placed Bradford Town Reserves who are claiming the plaudits after a 3-0 success over FC Devizes United saw them make it 3 victories from their opening 3 matches, and with those wins coming against Melksham Town Development, Seend United and a Devizes side who topped the second table last term, Bradford are no doubt looking to be the team to beat.

Freshford United continued to show why they are favourites for promotion from the Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, Second Division.  Chris Birleson’s side may have suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of fellow promotion hopefuls Semington Magpies, however a 3-2 triumph over Dilton Marsh Wanderers who are expected to be in the mix come April and a Saturday afternoon win away at Hilperton Greyhound, another team who were fancied to do well has seen them open up a 3 point lead at the summit.

Bromham FC & Frome Collegians Reserves were in action on Thursday evening. In a match that should have been played at Frome on Saturday afternoon, it was switched to midweek, on the request of Bromham manager Chandler Davison who was missing a large part of his team at the weekend.
