Freshford United Reserves FC 2 Trowbridge Wanderers FC 8

Elliott Tompkins added a fourth and Ewan Balkwill completed his hat trick before Nick Mead made it 6-1.

Lewis Balkwill and a fourth of the afternoon for Ewan Balkwill made up Wanderers eight after Luka Jovic and scored his second for Freshford.

Calne Athletic FC 0 Melksham Town Development FC 1

Calne Athletic FC who were second in Division 2 took on Melksham Town Development fourth in Division 1 in this PAH Accounting sponsored A&B Cup tie so the hopes were high for an entertaining match at Beverbrook.

However, the match was a tight affair that did not produce many clear-cut chances with neither side able to produce a chance of note and neither keeper was tested in the first half.

The main talking point of the first half took place in injury time when Aidan Hawkins challenged Morgan Ackerman on the halfway line and although the referee did not think Hawkins was the last man, he did decide that Hawkins’ challenge was to close to Ackerman’s head and produced a straight red card for the defender shortly before the whistle blew for half time.

Despite the deficit in playing staff, the first real chance of note was carved out by the ten men, Ewan McConnachie side footing a chance wide just minutes after the restart.

You may have thought the red card would have been the deciding factor in this match however, that was not the case when in the 65th minute, the referee ignored the signal from his assistant that the ball had left the field of play for a throw in and this allowed Melksham Town Development to continue their play and square the ball to Dean Kamunga to score from 5 yards for the only goal of the game.

The ten men of Calne Athletic held firm for the majority of the match and will be disappointed that the result did not go their way due to a decision that was out of their control.

Staverton Rangers FC 1 FC Devizes United 7

Second division, Staverton Rangers FC suffered a 7-1 home defeat at the hands of a FC Devizes United who having seen their league challenge disappear of late so will look to the A&B Cup to bring them some silverware this term.

Charlie Haggerty set Devizes on their way, a Kian Fulford double put them 3-0 up before Joe Savage bagged Staverton’s lone consolation.

After the break Devizes scored 4 more unanswered goals, Oscar Webster netting two, Guy Williamson once and another from Fulford that saw him complete his hat trick made up the seven.

Warminster Town Reserves FC 9 South Newton & Barford Hornets FC 0

Warminster Town Reserves move forward to the next round of the PAH Accounting sponsored A&B Cup after a one sided affair against second division opponents South Newton & Barford Horents FC at Weymouth Street.

South Newton’s hopes of a cup upset against higher league opponents were quashed by halftime with Warminster 4 nil up.

Goals from veteran striker Mike Reaney, Ed Leeson, Myles Woodward and an own goal.

Warminster started the second half slowly. After tapping in his second 40 year old Reaney was replaced by centre back Joe Stockley. Stockley responded to taking over from his childhood hero by grabbing a brace.

Captain and Warminster man of the match Ed Leeson left the pitch after scoring an excellent second goal from just outside the box.

James Bodman completed the scorers for Warminster.

Special mention must go to South Newton’s keeper who had an outstanding afternoon.
