MASSON SINKS SEEND IN SPRING CUP

Seend United who have suffered defeated in both the Knockout and A&B Cup Finals were looking to put those losses behind them when they hosted local rivals Melksham Town Development at the Beeches, Shaw.

Andy Dyer’s Division One champions lost out in a 9 goal thriller, and they were undone by Aaron Masson who marked his season’s debut for the Development side by scoring all 5 goals in their 5-4 success.

Masson scored a hat trick to put Melksham Development 3-0 ahead before goals for Rich Hudson and Jack Woolsgrove saw Seend get themselves back in the game.  A fourth from Masson saw Melksham lead 4-2 at the break.

Kieron Pearce clawed a third back for Seend United but once again Melksham through Aaron Masson reclaimed a two goal lead.

At 5-3 down, Seend threw everything at their guests in the hope of getting back in the tie and although Jordan Croad added a fourth for the hosts they were unable to conjure up an equaliser that would have taken the game to extra time.

DEVIZES COMING GOOD IN SPRING CUP

FC Devizes United may no have had the best of league campaigns, but back to back victories for the Stallions in the Spring Cup has seen them book a spot in the semi finals and a trip to A&B Cup winners Frome Collegians Reserves next Saturday will give them real hope of salvaging something from a season that so far to date has failed to deliver anything for last terms Second division winners.

Devizes travelled to Bradford Town Reserves who would have been on a high after last weekend’s stunning 5-1 victory over Seend United, however the hosts were unable to repeat the form of a week ago and Ross Pugh’s side exited the competition following a 4-1 loss.

In a match that saw four penalties, it was Devizes who took the lead courtesy of a penalty from Kian Fulford.  Fulford doubled the Devizes lead with his second of the afternoon which again came from the penalty spot and gave his team a 2-0 interval lead.

Dalton Bridewell made it 3-0 before Ashton Buckland who last week scored a 5-timer for Bradford reduced the arrears when he scored the third penalty of the afternoon.

Kian Fulford had the final say as he completed the Devizes triumph, like his previous two attempts from the spot, Fulford kept his cool to fire home from 12 yards and claim a hat trick of penalties.
