DIVISION ONE ROUND UP – WEEK 29

Melksham Town Development FC 6 Holt FC 0

Mike Coll’s, Melksham Town Development FC side made an immediate return to winning ways. Following last weeks 4-0 loss to FC Devizes United, Melksham were at their very best as they entertained Nigel Tripp’s Holt side who were at the start of the year seen as possible the Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge League, First Division title contenders.

A 6-0 defeat for Holt at the hands of a magnificent Melksham side means that is no longer the case and they are now in danger of a mid table finish rather than a top three placing they were looking for.

Melksham led 1-0 at the interval thanks to a Tom Tanner effort, after the break the floodgates opened as they helped themselves to five unanswered goals.

Jake Dodge doubled the hosts lead on 47 minutes and Archie Newman netted in the 56th minutes to make it 3-0.

Cameron Pearce added the fourth in the 71st minute before Newman who has been a great signing for the Development side this term made it 5-0 on 82 minutes with his 8th goal in nine outings.

Melksham weren’t done and they saved the best till last with Jake Dodge completing the scoring when he arrowed a stunning 35 yard free kick into the top corner that made it 6-0 in the final minute of the game.

Hilperton Greyhound FC 0 Heytesbury & Codford FC 5

With both Hilperton Greyhound FC and Heytesbury & Codford FC engaged in a relegation dogfight the meeting between the two teams at Whaddon Lane was the preverbal relegation 6-pointer and it was Sam Spratt’s visitors who came out on top with a 5-0 triumph that has taken them 3 points clear of their hosts as they bid to stay in the division.

It took Heytesbury & Codford until the 29th minute to make the breakthrough and it was Dani Shinar who fired the visitors ahead with a sublime overhead effort from 12 yards out, a contended for goal of the season. Jordan Leverett added a second in the 36th minute to claim his eighth goal of the season.

After a quiet opening 10 minutes to the second half, 3 goals in the space of 8 minutes had the game won for Heytesbury & Codford. Goals from Chris Steele in the 55th and 57th minutes made it 4-0 and took his tally to 17 for the season.

Cori Brewer then had a penalty saved by Jerrod Roberts, who not only saved the spot kick but saved the follow up to deny Greyhound a consolation, all of that happened just before Louis Cole scored from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute to seal the 5-0 win.

FC Devizes United 1 Freshford United FC 2

Ahead of their trip to an ever improving FC Devizes United side Freshford United were in a quartet of clubs in danger of getting dragged into a relegation dogfight, but a shock 2-1 victory at Goatacre has seen Chris Birleson’s side move 5 points clear of the drop zone.

Alfie Little gave Freshford the lead which was cancelled out by Zachary Bruce to leave things all square at the break.

Having got back on level terms, Devizes who had won their last four outings would have been expecting to go on and claim a fifth straight win, however that wasn’t the case as Freshford’s. Olly Tolcher conjured up a winner for the villagers who will be hoping that they can completed a quickfire double over their opponents as the teams are set to meet each other again next Saturday.

Frome Collegians AFC 4 Semington Magpies FC 1

Semington Magpies remain top of the table, but a 4-1 loss away at Frome Collegians AFC has put another dent in their title ambitions.

The victory for Collegians moves them above an inactive Seend United side who for a second successive week saw a match lost to a waterlogged pitch and level on points with a Magpies side who visit Melksham Town Development next Saturday which will be another tricky outing for Neil Taylor’s side.

Mike Pearson put Collegians ahead, but his goal was cancelled out as Magpies restored parity through Troy Hawkes, but his goal turned out to be a consolation, as goals from Tom Brown and Nathan Burrows put Collegians 3-1 up and well on top at the break.

Josh Keay was on target in the second half to earn Collegians their 4-1 success.

Warminster Town Reserves FC 0 Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC 1

Since suffering a 1-0 defeat against Freshford United back in January, Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC have put together a four match unbeaten run that includes 3 wins and a draw, a 3-1 victory over leaders Semington Magpies was followed this week by a 1-0 win over Warminster Town Reserves who had beaten them 4-1 in the reverse fixture.
