Bishops Cannings Reserves FC 3 Calne Athletic FC 4

With leaders Durrington FC and second placed Avon Valley in A&B Cup action, Calne Athletic FC sized the opportunity to close the gap on their rivals at the top of the Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge League Division Two. standings.

Calne Athletic who suffered a 4-2 defeat against Avon Valley last weekend travelled to an inform Bishops Cannings Reserves outfit who were bidding to stretch their unbeaten run to six matches, but the hosts came up just short as Calne squeezed out a 4-3 win to move into second place in the table.

Bishops Cannings took a 2nd minute lead courtesy of a Lewis Hiscock effort who netted from a Lewis Hellman assist.

Adam Richards restored parity for Calne in the 14th minute and they led 2-1 at the break, thanks to Ewan McConnachie’s 32nd minute effort.

The second half was just a minute old when a second for Adam Richards put Calne 3-1 up and when Ewan McConnichie doubled his tally for the afternoon when he made it 4-1 in the 62nd minute, Calne seemed to be out of sight.

Cannings have a new belief this term and Phil Hendy saw his side rally as they pulled a goal back on 73 minutes through William Cook and although they threw everything at Calne looking for a third goal, the visitors held out until the 90th minutes when Cook set up Lewis Hawkins who pulled another goal back to leave a nervy final few minutes for Calne, who were able to hold out for what in the end was 3 hard fought for points.


Pilot FC 0 Staverton Rangers FC 6

Local rivals Pilot FC and Staverton Rangers FC went head-to-head for the first time this season and it was the latter who claimed the bragging rites and the points thanks to a powerful first half showing that saw them bag all the goals that earned them a 6-0 win.

Sam Adeybanjo scored the opening 2 goals, Jake Abbott scored goals 3 and 4, Joe Savage made it 5-0 before Jake Abbott completed his first half treble that sealed Staverton’s convincing win.


South Newton & Barford Hornets FC 1 Freshford United Reserves FC 3

A 3-1 defeat for South Newton & Barford Hornets FC at home to Freshford United Reserves FC left the Salisbury based outfit still looking for their first win of the season.

Goals from Sol Vowell and Reece Mortimer gave Freshford a 2-0 lead at the break.

Issac Tompson halved the deficit for the Hornets, but his goal was just a consolation as second for Mortimer sealed Freshford’s 3-1 triumph.
