HOLT GET OVER THE LINE AT AVON VALLEY
Avon Valley FC suffered a 1-0 defeat against Division One high flyers Semington Magpies in the Knockout Cup and they must think that the cup God’s are against them. The Salisbury based side were drawn against another of the top flight’s inform sides in the PAH Accounting sponsored A&B Cup and despite pushing Holt FC all the way they saw their cup dreams ended by another 1-0 loss.
After a goalless first half it was Adam Welch who claimed the winner for Holt on 48 minutes, however his effort was going wide before it deflected in of the unfortunate Ryan Magill.
Holt will host the winners of the postponed tie between The Stiffs and Trowbridge Town Tigers.
Bromham FC 2 Melksham Town Development FC 3
MELKSHAM WITHSTAND BROMHAM FIGHTBACK
First division, Melksham Town Development FC were 3-0 up after 25 minutes away at second division Bromham FC, however Mike Coll’s side were left hanging on at the death as Pete Wallis side fought back after the break to cut the gap to the odd goal, but they were unable to conjure up an equaliser to take the match to extra time where they would have fancied their chances of causing an upset.
Archie Newman scored from the penalty spot to give Melksham the lead on 11 minutes, Cameron Pearce double the lead in the 20th minute and his second of the contest that came 5 minutes later put Melksham well on top.
If the first 45 minutes belonged to Melksham, the second was Bromham’s, 5 minutes after the restart Jack Angell threw the hosts a lifeline. With just 4 minutes remaining Bromham bagged themselves a second, Harry Ringwald setting up a tense finish that saw Melksham hold on to set up a quarter-final showdown away at Heytesbury & Codford.
Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC 0 Seend United FC 15
DILTON HIT BY STORM SEEND
A week after Storm Bert decimated the fixture programme of the Trowbridge League, Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC who should have visited Division One leaders, Seend United FC hosted them in the A&B Cup, and Seend left their hosts shell-shocked as they ran in 15 goals without reply.
Seend who missed out in last season’s final to Frome Collegians AFC will face second division Durrington in the last 8 and they will be hoping that take their scoring antics into that game in January as Durrington won’t be taken lightly, especially after knocking out last terms cup winners.
Seend started the game strong with Tom Blackman scoring after 60 seconds from close range this opened the floodgates with Seend hitting Dilton with 15 unanswered goals.
This was the first of 4 goals from Tom Blackman, Seend passing the ball around created another goal with Tom Blackman scoring his 2nd in quick succession in the box 2-0. 3rd goal was scored by the hard tackling defender Josh Maguire the first for the club, scoring from 3 yards out no excuses 3-0. Jamie Cunning followed up with a half volley making it 4-0, Jamie Cunning with another goal making it 5-0 with only few minutes left before half time.
Olly Sterling brought down in the penalty box leaving the ref with no choice “penalty” up steps Gary Higdon no problem 6-0 making it 19 goals for the season. 6-0 half time the whistle blows.
2nd half normal service from Seend out of the blocks quick with club captain Rich Hudson scoring a bullet header from a Charlie Waylen corner 7-0. The flying Scotsman Jamie Cunning completes his hat trick for the afternoon with a well taken shot 8-0. Tom Blackman causing Dilton all sorts of problems scores again for his hat trick with a low drilled shot 9-0, Rich Hudson again 10-0 with another header, Seend still pushing for more goals make it 11-0 with Gary Higdon scoring his 20th of the season. Andy Dyer making a few changes on 65 with Jamie Cunning making way for Matt Purdy and George Strevens for James Cox.
Matt Purdy the tricky winger scores making it 12-0 with a low drilled shot but in the process injuring himself, back on comes Jamie Cunning. Olly Sterling makes it 13-0 after cutting in shooting a well taken goal, 14-0 Tom Blackman for his fourth of the afternoon with a low drilled strike. Minutes left on the clock again Olly Sterling cutting in and shooting 15-0. The ref blows for full time 15-0 into the next round.
Credit Dilton who kept playing for the whole 90 mins.
FC Devizes United 8 Hilperton Greyhound FC 3
DEVIZES END GREYHOUND’S CUP HOPES – AGAIN
Having already beaten Hilperton Greyhound FC in this season’s Knockout Cup, FC Devizes United were paired with their First division stablemates in the A&B Cup second round and once again they emerged victorious, as they blew their guests away for a second time, winning 8-3 to progress to the quarter-finals where they travel to Warminster Town Reserves.
Greyhound fell behind, but got themselves level through Luke Reed, but trailed 2-1 at the break.
Devizes moved through the gears in the second half and although Josh Propert and Rich Coleman scored for Greyhound they were just consolations as Kian Fulford’s treble, Jamie Crump’s double along with a goal each for Oscar Webster and substitutes Will Coker and Jack Brain completed the Devizes win.
Frome Collegians AFC 1 Durrington FC 1 AET – Durrington win 8-7 on penalties
HOLDERS LOSE OUT IN PENALTY LOTTERY
Durrington FC who currently top the Second division standings recorded one of their biggest wins to date, the 8-7 penalty success may not of been they biggest in goals scored but their A&B Cup victory over Cup holders Frome Collegians AFC has to be one of the results of the season to date.
Lewis Perret gave Collegians the lead which was cancelled out by a Danny Finnigan effort that saw the teams go into the break at 1-apiece.
With both the second 45 minutes and 30 minutes of added time failing to produce a winner, it came down to the dreaded penalty shoot out that saw Durrington come out on top winning 8-7 from a total of 20 spot kicks.
Lewis Perrett, James Hounsell, George Holland, Filip Borek, Ben Carver and Lewis Connor were successful from the spot, while Ross Knapton, Arran Connor and Jack Taylor missed from 12 yards.
Toby Hoskins, Tyler Pavey, Danny Finnigan, Lewis Perrett, James Fisher, Olly Mason, Jordan McEntee and Matt O’Brien all scored for Durrington to set up a trip to Division one leaders Durrington.
Semington Magpies FC 2 Warminster Town Reserves FC 3
MIGHTY JOE SCORES DOUBLE FOR WARMINSTER
A hard thought game at Little Marsh between First Division stable mates Semington Magpies and Warminster Town Reserves FC saw Warminster come out on top thanks to a 3-2 success.
Warminster took the lead on 35 minutes after a powerful run straight through the middle of the home side’s midfield which lead to Joe Wilkins finishing well.
Harvey Frisby levelled just 2 minutes later after good work by Gavin Francis.
A second for Joe Wilkins put Warminster 2-1 up on 60 minutes.
Semington had claims for what they thought was a nailed on penalty turned down before Drew Adams added Warminster’s 3rd in the 77 minute.
Cam Dawes got one back for the Magpies in the 84th minute after good work from Ryan Dawes, but it was little more than a consolation as Warminster held firm and go through to the next round, where they will host FC Devizes United.
Trowbridge Wanderers FC 1 Heytesbury & Codford FC 2
HEYTESBURY & CODFORD AVOID CUP SHOCK
First division, Heytesbury & Codford, were given an almighty scare away at Second division Trowbridge Wanderers FC who after holding their guests at the interval went on to suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat.
Chris Steele who who having a great season in front of goal for Heytesbury & Codford gave his team the lead, Chris Bird doubled the advantage before a late penalty from Lewis Howe set up a thrilling finale that saw the visitors to Lambrok Community Centre get over the line to set up a home meeting with Melksham Town Development in the next round.
