DIVISION ONE ROUND UP – WEEK 14

The Stiffs FC 3 Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC 2

Just two matches were played in the Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge League First Division, one of those was at the Beeches, Shaw where the bottom two sides went head-to-head. The Stiffs who started the day at the foot of the table entertained Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC bidding for a first win of the season.

When the teams met back in September, they fought out a 3-3 draw, in what was another closely thought encounter it was the Stiffs who came out on top, a 3-2 victory earning them a first win of the season and in claiming the 3 points it meant they moved above Wanderers in the standings.

Dilton saw Lee Handford’s opener cancelled out by a Jake Davies goal for the Stiffs, however the hosts found themselves 2-1 down at the interval as Adam Casserly put Dilton ahead for the second time in the contest.

Dilton had Rob Youens red carded in the second period and the Stiffs made the most of their numerical advantage. Billy Simpson getting them on level terms before netting his second of the afternoon to wrap up their 3-2 victory.

Holt FC 4 Warminster Town Reserves FC 2

The first of back-to-back league meetings between Holt FC and Warminster Town Reserves FC saw Holt stretch their own unbeaten run to 8 matches while bring their guests 7 match unbeaten run to an end.

Warminster who had not lost since they were beaten 1-0 away at Freshford United at the end of August saw they fine run ended by a Holt side who suffered an opening day defeat to leaders Semington Magpies.

A 4-2 win for Nigel Tripp’s side will give them a massive boost of confidence going into the reverse fixture next week where Warminster will be gunning for immediate revenge.

George White and Adam Walsh combined on 5 minutes to give Holt the lead, White putting them 1-0 up. Joseph Bakali-Laughton doubled the hosts lead in the 12th minute when he scored from the penalty spot.

Tom Ball halved the arrears for Warminster on 29 minutes, however Holt restored their 2-goal cushion when Max Griffiths provided the assist for Jacob Nsirim to net and give Holt a 3-1 interval lead.

After the break, Matt Goodwill latched on to a Billy Gunning ball in the 66th minute to give Holt a 4-1 advantage.

Warminster pulled a second back courtesy of Sean Snook on 83 minutes, but it was nothing more than a consolation as Holt saw the game out to move up to third in the standings.
