BROMHAM EDGE 7-GOAL THRILLER
With the majority of Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge League Division Two, sides in either Wiltshire Junior Cup or Knockout Cup action, it meant that only two league matches were played.
One of those was at New Road, Bromham where Pete Wallis hosts welcomed Trowbridge Wanderers FC and after back-to-back defeats they were desperate for a return to winning ways, which they managed as they edged a 7-goal thriller 4-3.
An Adam Butterworth double saw Bromham lead 2-0 at the break, his goals arriving in the 36th and 40th minutes.
Caleb Englefield extend the lead to 3-0 before Lewis Howe came of the bench to score on his debut. Daniel Ellis another Wanderers substitute cut the gap to the odd goal, but any hopes of a revival were ended when Englefield added his second and Bromham’s fourth of the afternoon.
Nick Mead scored a late third for Wanderers, but although they threw everything at Bromham, they were unable to conjure up an equaliser.
Freshford United Reserves FC 2 Staverton Rangers FC 3
STAVERTON FIGHT BACK TO STUN FRESHFORD
When Freshford United Reserves FC visited Staverton Rangers FC on the opening day of the season back in August, Mike Little’s side suffered a 5-1 defeat. Fast forward nearly 3 months and the teams met in the reverse fixture.
Once again it was Staverton who claimed the honours, however Freshford will be asking themselves how they didn’t get anything from a match that they led 2-0, before an inspired performance from Rangers Kieran Mills saw them turn the game on it’s head to claim a 3-2 win.
Recce Mortimer’s 20th minute strike gave Freshford a slender half time lead.
Matias Correa doubled Fresford advantage on 52 minutes and at that point they looked on course to avenge their opening day loss, however they didn’t account for the heroics of Mills.
Kieran Mills started the revival and by the time full time arrived he had completed the comeback as he’d scored all 3 goals that earned Staverton at one point seemed an unlikely victory.
