STIFFS CHALK UP FIRST POINT OF THE SEASON
The Stiffs may remain at the foot of the Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge League First Division, but a 2-2 draw in their early match at home to Warminster Town Reserves FC saw them pick up a first point of the season and a first ever in the top flight of the league.
Jake Davies fired the Stiffs in front and when Luke Saunderson doubled the advantage for George Hartrey’s side the Trowbridge based side were dreaming of a first win.
Jake Owen halved the arrears for Warminster Reserves prior to the half time break and Patrick Kapelka denied Stiffs all 3 points when he fashioned an equaliser for the visitors to the Beeches, Shaw who themselves are just above the drop zone with 4 points from a possible 15.
Frome Collegians AFC 6 Freshford United FC 1
COLLEGIANS CRUSH FRESHFORD TO REMAIN TOP
The battle of the Somerset outfits, Frome Collegians AFC and Freshford United FC went the way of the former who despite falling behind, fought back to claim a thumping 6-1 victory that keeps Karl Freeman’s side top of the standings.
Frome fell behind to an Olly Tolcher goal before George Holland restored parity for the hosts and Ben Bullus gave them a 2-1 interval lead.
Frome Collegians dominated their guests in the second half with four unanswered goals, a second for Bullus made it 3-1.
Elliot Smith added number 4 before Ben Bullus netted his third of the afternoon to ensure he took the match ball home. Tom Brown completed the half dozen for Collegians.
Holt FC 3 Heytesbury & Codford FC 2
LATE GOAL HANDS HOLT VICTORY
Holt FC had to come from behind to deny visitors Heytesbury & Codford FC a victory at their High Street ground with their winner coming 5 minutes from time.
After a goal less first 45 minutes, Kieran Plummer was on hand to give Holt the lead in the opening minute of the second period.
Jordan Leverett got Heytesbury & Codford back on level terms in the 58th minute and 2 minutes later the visitors to Holt had edged in from, a second from Leverett putting them 2-1 up.
Holt weren’t behind for too long as Jacob Nsirim slotted home to restore parity on 63 minutes.
With the game heading for a draw, Holt snatched all 3 points courtesy of Matt Goodwill to thanks to an assist from Frank Dunn made it 3-2 in the 85th minute and the hosts held on to claim a hard fought victory.
Seend United FC 3 FC Devizes United 1
DEFENDING CHAMPS OVERCOME BATTLING DEVIZES
Andy Dyer’s defending First Division champions Seend United avoided a potential upset when they hosted FC Devizes United.
Seend who lost to a struggling Warminster Town Reserves side a couple of weeks ago, were well aware that on their day Devizes could have caused them problems, but thanks to an excellent first half showing that saw the hosts open up a 3-0 advantage before going on to claim a 3-1 triumph.
A Richard Hudson header put Seend in front, Arthur Dolan doubled their lead and a Jamie Cunning strike put them well on top after 45 minutes.
Oscar Webster pulled a goal back for Devizes after the break, but it was just to be a consolation as Seend held out to take maximum points
Semington Magpies FC 3 Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC 2
DAWES NETS LATE WINNER TO KEEP MAGPIES IN TITLE RACE
Fixtures between Semington Magpies FC and Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC always seems to have something on it and the match never fails to deliver and this latest encounter was no different as Magpies had to come from behind to claim a 3-2 success.
An entertaining opening ten minutes saw both teams going for it and it was Magpies who broke the deadlock, a Gavin Francis shot was blocked in the 11th minute and Andrew Keightley was on hand to tap home his first goal for the Magpies.
Magpies were starting to get on top with Ryan Dawes causing problems down the wing, however after a heavy challenge Dawes afternoon was over.
Just 5 minutes later Dilton were level when an Adam Casserly shot from 20 yards took a deflection leaving Magpies keeper Harry Beer no chance in the Magpies goal.
On the hour ex Dilton defender Jedd Cooley headed past his own keeper to give Dilton Marsh the lead. Magpies thought they had levelled on 65 minutes when a Cam Curtis shot flew in. The goal was chalked off and with VAR at this level to tell if the decision was right or wrong.
Magpies were throwing everything they had at their guests and on 70 minutes, they drew level, Adam Mugondi smashing home an equaliser.
Semington Magpies completed their comeback in the 82nd minute, an neat pass from Callum Trowers found Cameron Dawes who made no mistake from six yards wrap up a 3-2 win for Neil Taylor’s title hopefuls.
