VALLEY WIN TO CLAIM SHARE OF TOP SPOT
With Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, Division Two early pacesetters Durrington FC in Knockout Cup action, their fierce rivals Avon Valley FC had the chance to move level with them at the top of the table.
Standing in the way of Wes Hardy’s side claiming a share of top spot were a Bishops Cannings side hoping to build on their 5-2 victory over Pilot FC last time out. On this occasion Cannings were involved in a 10 goal encounter, but it was Avon Valley who ran out 8-2 victors to move level on 9 points with both Durrington and Calne Athletic.
Ahmed Haroun saw his 9th minute opener for Avon Valley cancelled out by Lewis Hancock who restored parity for Cannings, just a couple of minutes after falling behind.

McCONNACHIE SCORES TREBLE IN ATHLETIC WIN
Pilot FC who have lost their opening two matches, welcomed an inform Calne Athletic FC side to their Bowerhill base looking to cause an upset against a side that looks to be heading in the right direction after two victories from their opening 3 matches.
With first round action in the Chantry Digital KO Cup taking place, Calne Athletic took to put themselves level with the front runners of Division 2 and that is exactly what they did courtesy of a 4-0 away win against Pilot FC at the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Field.
Athletic showed their intent from the beginning and nearly found themselves in front in the first few when Aidan Hawkins rose highest to meet a Jack Boyd-Cox corner however, the guided header came back off of the crossbar with the goalkeeper routed to the spot.
Hawkins was not to be denied though as a similar routine saw him glance another corner home to open the scoring with 19 minutes on the clock.
With both teams seemingly becoming frustrated with the Pilot who had been testing the boundaries of the time limits from the start of the match, it was actually his fault fault for the second Athletic goal, having dwelled on the ball for far too long he allowed Ewan McConnachie to steal the ball and score what will probably be his easiest goal of the season.
Two soon became three when another mix up, this time between defenders again allowed McConnachie to slot calmly passed the keeper and the score would remain 3-0 up to the half time break.
Through more tactics of trying keep the ball out of play and some offside calls bordering on questionable, Athletic could only add one more goal to their tally when following some impressive work by the industrious Spencer Smart who had put in a shift for the whole match, allowed Cory Thorn to play McConnachie through an with the linesman’s flag finally remaining unraised, McConnachie beat the goalkeeper to take home the match ball and confirm another win for Athletic who are one of 3 teams on 9 points.
