Warminster Town Reserves FC 3 Hilperton Greyhound FC 4
GREYHOUND SEND KO CUP HOLDERS PACKING
A week after Warminster Town Reserves FC suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Hilperton Greyhound FC in their Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge & District League First Division encounter the pair met again in the first match of this season’s Chantry Digital sponsored Knockout Cup.
Warminster Town Reserves who were the defending cup holders saw their hopes of retaining the trophy they lifted back in April after an extra time 2-1 success over Seend United ended at the very first hurdle, after they slumped to a 4-3 loss in a thrilling cup tie that saw Greyhound 4-0 up at one point.
Liam Lawes and Josh Lewis who both netted twice in the league win proved to be a thorn in Warminster’s side again. Lawes opened the scoring for Darren Brewer’s side, Cori Brewer made it 2-0 before bagged his second of the after to make it 3-0 and when Josh Lewis added number four it look as if Greyhound were going to romp to a high scoring win.
Warminster weren’t going to give up their trophy without and fight and when Cooper Brooks pulled a goal back before half time it gave them the lifeline they were looking for.
The second half saw the visitors to Whaddon Lane take the game to Greyhound and when Sean Snook scored from the penalty spot to half the deficit, it was game on and things became more interesting when Cooper Brooks cut the gap to the odd goal.
Despite, Warminster’s efforts to take the game to extra time, they were unable to snatch an all important fourth goal, as Hilperton Greyhound held on to claim what in the end was a nail-biting win that sent the cup holders crashing out in the first round.
