MELKSHAM DEVELOP FIRST WIN
For a second successive Friday evening Melksham Town Development FC were in action and unlike last week when they suffered a 4-0 defeat away at defending, Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, First Division champions Seend United FC, Mike Coll’s side claimed a first win of the season as they overturned a half time deficit to beat Frome Collegians AFC 2-1 at Oakfield.
Frome Collegians took the lead midway through the first half, Lewis Perrott scoring his first ever goal for the club to put them ahead again the team who beat them twice in the league last term.
Trailing at the break, Melksham were back on level terms in the opening minute of the second period, Aaron Masson scoring from the penalty spot to see parity restored.
Melksham sealed their first win of the new campaign thanks to Olly Clarke whose 57th minute strike proved to be the winner.
Freshford United FC 6 The Stiffs FC 1
ALFIE SHOWS LITTLE MERCY TO THE STIFFS
Freshford United FC and The Stiffs FC locked horns at Browns Park with both teams looking to register a first win of the season and it was the former who got the points on the board, as an Alfie Little inspired performance led Chris Birleson’s side to a 6-1 win.
Jake Davies fired the Stiffs in front which only seemed to stun Freshford into action as they woke from their slumber to hit 6 unanswered goals.
Alfie Little restored parity for Freshford and Dan Sandiford gave them a 2-1 advantage when he scored from the penalty spot. a second for Little gave the villagers a 3-1 interval lead.
Freshford extended their lead, courtesy of a third from Alfie Little who finished the game with a four-timer, his fourth being the final goal of the contest after Ryan Muirhead had bagged goal number five for the home side.
Heytesbury & Codford FC 1 FC Devizes United 6
DEVIZES HAND McDAID FIRST WIN
FC Devizes United chalked up a first win for manager Clive McDaid, which came courtesy of a 6-1 triumph away at a Heytesbury & Codford FC side who had drawn both of their opening matches.
Jack Brain opened the scoring for Devizes who were 3-0 ahead at the break, Oscar Webster scoring goals two and three.
After the interval, James Stobart notched his first goal for the FC Devizes United Saturday side, Oscar Webster completed his hat trick to made it 5-0 before Louis Cole scored from the penalty spot to give the hosts their consolation.
A debut goal from Joshua Whittaker-Orton completed the half dozen, for McDaid’s side who will hope to kick on and pick up more points when they face an inform Hilperton Greyhound side next weekend.
Seend United FC 1 Semington Magpies FC 1
POINTS SHARED AT LITTLE MARSH
Division One leaders and title favourites Seend United FC visited Little Marsh for a meeting with a newly promoted Semington Magpies side who like Andy Dyer’s defending champions had won their opening two matches. A close was was expected and it didn’t disappoint as the teams fought out a thrilling 1-1 draw.
The early exchanges were all about Seend as they dominated, however against the run of play, a fine pass from Harvey Frisby found Ryan Dawes who was pushed to the ground inside the Seend box, up stepped Gavin Francis who made no mistake from the spot to give Neil Taylor’s side a 1-0 lead.
Just two minutes later Seend won their own penalty and like Francis, Dave Percival made no mistake as his cool finish from he spot made it 1-apiece.
The second half, Semington were back too their best and created some decent chances. Andrew Keightley’s free kick rattled the Seend bar they also watched on as an Adam Mugondi shot came back off the inside of the post.
Seend themselves also went close on a couple of occasions and were denied a winner by the frame of the Semington goal.
The game was played in the right spirit and was a great advert for the League.
