DIVISION TWO ROUND UP – 13th April 2024

Hilperton Greyhound FC 6 Aces FC 0

GREYHOUND RACE TO ANOTHER WIN

Hilperton Greyhound FC maintained their chances of beating current Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, Second Division leaders to the title after they blew away latest opponents Aces FC 6-0 ahead of what promises to be a tricky Tuesday night trip to Goatacre where they face Calne Eagles for the first time this season and nothing but a win will keep them in the title race.

Josh Propert gave Greyhound the lead, a stunning 35 yard volley doubled their advantage.  Arthur Dolan continued his rich vain of form in front of goal with Greyhound’s third of the afternoon, Josh Lewis fired home goal number four that saw Darren Brewer’s side lead 4-0 at the break.

A second from Dolan that took his tally to 10 in four matches made it 5-0 before a Adam Stevens thumped home a free kick to complete the scoring for the hosts.

Semington Magpies FC 1 Calne Eagles FC 0

FRANCIS STRIKES MAGPIES WINNER

When Semington Magpies and Calne Eagles met 12 days ago, it was Magpies who came out on top with a 2-0 win away at Goatacre on night that almost didn’t happen due to the dreadful weather conditions.

In the return match Magpies came up trumps once again, this time it was courtesy of a 1-0 win.

Eagles should have took the lead on 35 minutes when Ewan Mcconichie blazed his penalty over the bar after Callum Trowers had been adjudged to have fouled the Eagles forward.
In a half of very few chances. Jay Muldoon sent Harvey Frisby through on goal, he was fouled inside the Eagles box. Gavin Francis stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to give Magpies a 1-0 half time lead.
If there were only a few chances in the first half, there were even fewer in the second half.  The Magpies defended the Eagles long ball game really well with Jedd Cooley marshalling his troops at the back.
Harvey Frisby’s powerful run for Magpies left three Eagles players in his wake, his squared the ball to Kyle Morgan Hemmens saw him shoot straight at Calne’s keeper Tom Bull.
Magpies did enough to win their last home game of the season. Jay Muldoon was outstanding in defence for the Magpies. Jack Boyd Cox was the Eagles outstanding player.

Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC 0 Trowbridge Town Tigers FC 1

LUCK IS ON TOM’S SIDE IN TIGERS WIN

Dilton Marsh Wanderers who were on an excellent run of form ahead of last weeks loss to Hilperton Greyhound hosted a Trowbridge Town Tigers side who had beaten them 4-2 in the reverse encounter, but who hadn’t been in the best form of late.  Tiger’s however were good enough on the day to claim a narrow 1-0 success.

With neither team able to produce any magic in front of goal in the first half, it took a Tom Luckman goal to win it for Tim Brown’s Trowbridge Tiger’s side.

Staverton Rangers FC 5 South Newton & Barford Hornets FC 2

BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR STAVERTON

After convincingly beating Aces FC in their previous game, Staverton Rangers picked up back-to-back victories for the first time ever thanks to a 5-2 victory over South Newton & Barford Hornets on the 3G surface at Beversbrook, Calne.

The second half saw Shepherd score another two that completed his hat trick to give the hosts a 5-0 lead before Matthew Keel and Connor Dawkins scored late consolations for the Hornets.
