DIVISION TWO ROUND UP – 2nd April 2024

Calne Eagles FC 0 Semington Magpies FC 2

MAGPIES DOWN EAGLES AT GOATACRE

Semington Magpies FC may have seen their hopes of winning the Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge & District League, Division Two title disappear at the weekend, but Neil Taylor’s side kept their hope of claiming a top two finish alive thanks to a 2-0 victory away at Calne Eagles.

On a pitch that was saturated prior to kick off and only got worse as the match went on Magpies who were due to host Eagles at Littlemarsh before the late switch to Goatacre battled well to claim a well earned 3 points.

Gavin Francis gave the Magpies the lead in the 5th minute after being put through by Harvey Frisby. Both George York and Max Bishop went close to extending Magpies lead, but in the end it was Francis’ goal that gave Neil Taylor’s side a slender half time lead.

Gavin Francis was guilty of missing a couple of good chances which would have settled things for the visitors to Goatacre before they finally killed the the game off on 87 minutes when substitute Ashley Ellis who was making his debuts for Magpies head home a George York cross which sealed the 2-0 success.
Francis and Ellis may have scored the goals that earned the visitors maximum points, but they were helped by Jed Cooley who was outstanding in defence for Magpies.
