KNOCKOUT CUP – 1/4 FINALS

Heytesbury & Codford FC 0 Hilperton Greyhound FC 4

GREYHOUND PRODUCE KO CUP UPSET

Heytesbury & Codford FC may have overcome a potential cup upset in the previous round of this seasons Chantry Digital sponsored Knockout Cup, when they saw of the challenge of Second division, Trowbridge Town Tigers, however in their quarter-final meeting with Hilperton Greyhound, the visitors caused not only the shock of the round but also the competition as they defeated their hosts 4-0 to progress to the semi-finals where they will face First division champions Seend United.

Luke Reed who had only netted one in his previous 12 starts for Greyhound gave the Trowbridge based side a half time lead.

Josh Reed doubled the Greyhound’s lead before a second of the afternoon from Reed made it 3-0.

Charlie Brewer came of the bench for Greyhound to put the icing on the cake for visiting underdogs with his first goal for the club to complete a memorable win for Darren Brewer’s side.

SEEND COAST TO CUP SEMI-FINALS

It was a case of Dave verses Goliath at Green Lane, Devizes where hosts Bishops Cannings Reserves  suffered a 10-1 loss against Division one champions Seend United who will now face Hilperton Greyhound as they look to progress to the final of this season’s Chantry Digital sponsored Knockout Cup competition.

The tie was as good as over for Cannings as early as the eighth minute as goals from Mark Reynolds in the 3rd & 8th had put Seend 2-0 ahead.

Tiano Brittan from a Antony Freebody assist got Cannings back in the game in the 14th minute, however that only seemed to poke the bear as Seend upped their game a hat trick goal from Reynolds along with a Jack Woolsgrove effort made it 4-1 at the break.

The second half saw Seend bag a further 6 unanswered goals, a 3 goals from Mark Reynolds took his tally for the afternoon to 6.  Derek (DJ) Wheeler netted twice with Charlie Waylen’s effort completed Seend’s double numbers.

Warminster Town Reserves FC 4 Semington Magpies FC 2

SLOW START COST MAGPIES

Second division outfit Semington Magpies FC travelled to Weymouth Street, home of First division Warminster Town Reserves for their quarter-final clash in the Chantry Digital sponsored Knockout Cup.

A crazy opening 15 minutes saw Semington go 3-0 down.  Tom Ball, Jake Wright and a Jacob Hamilton own goal doing the damage.

On a pitch where both teams were unable to play any flowing football, it was Magpies who suffered the worse. Finally when they adapted to the conditions Neil Taylor’s side got themselves back into the game.

Harvey Frisby cross was strangely handled by a Warminster defender and Tyler Dagger made no mistake from the spot to reduce the arrears.

On 30 minutes Harvey Frisby’s long pass picked out Jiordan Burrell Mendis and he netted at the second attempt to give Magpies a real chance of turning things around.

However that chance went when on 43 minutes Warminster got their fourth courtesy of Matt Mead.

The pitch which was so badly cut up pitch and with players losing their footing all over the pitch meant not much football was played after the break.

Kyle Morgan Hemmens did have a great chance to get one back for Semington, but couldn’t take the opportunity from 5 yards.  Spencer Frisby who probably deserved a goal for his performance went close as well, but neither could turn their chances into goals.
