DIVISION TWO ROUND UP – 27th January 2024

Holt FC 6 The Stiffs FC 2

FOUR-STAR BAKALI-LAUGHTON IS A HIT FOR HOLT

With Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, Second Division, leaders Freshford United due to be playing in the Somerset Intermediate Cup, it gave second placed Holt FC the opportunity to close the gap on Chris Birleson’s table toppers.

When the teams met in November, Holt were 2-0 up before surrendering their lead and having to settle for a point from a 2-2 draw.  In the return match Nigel Tripp’s side made no sure their was no such slip up as they romped to a 6-2 triumph.

Holt were 3-0 up at half time, with all the goals coming from Joseph Bakali-Laughton, his first arrived in the 9th minute, his second came on 17 minutes and he completed his hat trick, 4 minutes prior to the break when he made it 3-0 from the penalty spot.

Robbie Tripp added number on 57 minutes and moments later Bakali-Laughton made it 5-0 with his fourth of the afternoon.

Sam McQueen and Billy Wilkins-Pratt clawed a couple back for the Stiffs, but was a case of TWO little, too late as the match was already lost before Jordan Smith scored a late sixth for Holt.

Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC 4 Calne Eagles FC 0

10-MAN CALNE LOSE OUT AT DILTON

Dilton Marsh Wanderers played hosts to a Calne Eagles FC side who finished the match with 10 players after they had player/manager Tom Bull sent off.

A Dan Bryce goal separated the teams at the interval.

A second from Bryce saw Dilton double their advantage, Dale Rowland made it 3-0 with an effort from just inside the Calne half and Ben Carver had the final say when he made it 4-0 with his sixth goal of the campaign.

Staverton Rangers FC 2 Trowbridge Town Tigers FC 3

BIZZARE GOAL HANDS TIGERS VICTORY

A week after Staverton Rangers FC claimed a brilliant 3-1 victory away at Trowbridge Town Tigers FC the sides went head-to-head again in what was a rescheduled league fixture and on this occasion it was the Tigers who came out on top with a 3-2 triumph.

Staverton led 1-0 at the break through a Sam Adeybanjo goal and when he netted his second after the restart it was looking as if Keith Dyckes team were on course to claim a first ever league double.

Trowbridge Tigers were thrown a lifeline when Martin Little headed beyond his own keeper Jack Prangle and they were back on level terms courtesy of a Aaron Haffenfeld effort that saw him score direct from a corner.

With everything to play for Tigers completed the great turnaround when a Corin Day throw went in of the unfortunate Jack Prangle to give Tigers all 3 points.
