FIVE STAR MELKSHAM HIT TOP FORM
When Melksham Town Reserves FC and Heytesbury & Codford FC met back in early September, the Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, First Division, match ended in a 2-2 draw, however due to what was deemed to be a breach of league rules for which neither team were at fault, the match had to be replayed and Mike Coll’s Melksham side will be by far the happy of the two sides as they turned in one of their best performances for a long time to claim a 5-0 win.
Baillie Nichols got Melksham off to a flyer when he gave the lead after just 2 minutes. A second from Nichols on 42 minutes put the hosts 2-0 ahead at the break.
Just like the first half, the second period saw Melksham come out with all guns blazing and it was 3-0 on 49 minutes, Morgan Akerman finding the net for the fourth time this season.
Although they were down 3-0, Heytesbury & Codford weren’t out of it, however all that changed in the space of four minutes. A first goal for the club from Liam Brooks made it 4-0 in the 58th minutes and just 4 minutes later Callum Thorburn completed the scoring for the afternoon, with his teams fifth that capped their fine display, which lifted them to second place in the standings.
Warminster Town Reserves FC 3 Seend United FC 1
SEEND SUFFER NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, First Division leaders, Seend United arrived at Weymouth Street, knowing that if they avoided defeat they would be crowned champions. However things didn’t go to plan for Andy Dyer’s side who suffered their own Nightmare Before Christmas as they suffered a first loss since they were beaten by Bradford Town Reserves back in August.
Joshua Drury put Warminster in front and Seb Hounsell doubled their advantage prior to half time.
After the break Matthew Mead added a third to put the hosts in total charge, and although Derek Wheeler pulled a goal back for the leaders it was a case of too little, too late as the visitors had to put the champagne back on ice and hope that the New Year will bring them the points needed to clinch their first top flight title since 2010.
