DISCIPLINED GREYHOUND OVERCOME HORNETS

Hilperton Greyhound were on the road, away at First division stablemates South Newton & Barford Hornets in their Second round meeting in this season’s Chantry Digital Ltd sponsored Knockout Cup.

In what was the first meeting of the season between the Division one rivals, it was Greyhound who put the disappointment of last week’s loss to Bishops Cannings Reserves behind them as a 4-0 victory saw them book their place in the quarter-finals.

Kierran Ramsey making his debut for Greyhound may not have got his name on the scoresheet but along with Gavin Francis they produced two assists each, Francis set Ellis Farion up for Geyhound’s opener on 5 minutes which gave his team a slender 1-0 lead at half time.

After the break Farion added his second of the afternoon in the 48th minute, this time from a Ramsey assist.

Joshua Lewis made it 3-0 on 85 minutes with Francis having a hand in the goal and just 3 minutes later Francis himself found the net to seal their visitors 4-0 success with Ramsey claiming the assist.


Staverton Rangers FC 2 Bishops Cannings Reserves FC 7 

CANNINGS THOUGH TO QUARTER-FINALS

Bishops Cannings Reserves came out on top in their all Second division Chantry Digital Ltd sponsored Knockout Cup clash away at Staverton Rangers who slumped to a 7-2 loss.

The teams had already shared the honour’s in their two league encounter this term, with one win apiece, but in the cup clash it was Cannings who breezed through to the last 8.

Ben Woods set Leo Griggs opener for Cannings on 6 minutes, however Staverton were on level terms just a minute later, Samuel Toyin-Adebanjo making it 1-apiece.

Ben Woods regained the lead for Cannings in the 13th minutes from an Ethan Howard assist, Tyler Gibbs then fired home a third for the visitors on 26 minutes with a second for Toyin-Adebanjo halving the deficit prior to half time as Caninngs went into the break 3-2 ahead.

Any thoughts of a Staverton comeback was realistically ended on the hour mark, when Liam Carter set up Etan Howard to make it 4-2.  Callum Howard and Sam Jones who both came off the bench for Cannings in the second half finally killed off Staverton’s chances.  Jones making it 5-1 in the 78th minutes and just two minutes later he turned provider for Callum Howard to add number 6.

Five minutes from time, Sam Jones added his second and Cannings 7th as he wrapped up what was a comfortable 7-2 success, from a second assist of the afternoon from Ethan Howard.
