Freshford United won 4-3 on penalties

FRESHFORD PROGRESS AFTER PENALTY SUCCESS

The pick of today’s First Round matches from the PAH Accounting sponsored A&B Cup competition saw Second Division leaders Freshford United defeat First division, high flying Bradford Town Reserves 4-3 on penalties, after 90 minutes and extra time failed to produce a winner.

After taking the lead courtesy of a Matt Bond effort, Freshford United were pegged back by Olly Sterling whose goal for Bradford saw parity restored.  Freshford who are proving that they will be a good fit should they get back to Division regained the lead through Dan Birleson.

Leading 2-1 at half time Freshford gave up their advantage when Arthur Dolan tied the scores at 2-apiece and take the game to extra time.

With neither team able to conjure up a winner in the additional 30 minutes the tie was decided by the dreaded penalty shootout where successful kicks from Dan Sandiford, Reece Mortimer, Mark Maguire and Dan Birleson saw Freshford though to the next round.


Bishops Cannings FC 4 Warminster Town Reserves FC 2

WARMINSTER EXIT CUP AFTER CANNINGS DEFEAT

Trowbridge League, First division side Warminster Town Reserves had to travel to Stanley Park, Chippenham for their Junior Cup meeting against Wiltshire League outfit Bishops Cannings FC who had been struggling for form in the league, but came up trumps in the cup as they claimed what many will see as a surprise 4-2 success.

Bishops Cannings took the lead via Charlie Swan on 8 minutes, a Szymon Raczek effort made it 2-0 in the 37th minute.  Joshua Drury reduced the arrears for Warminster when he netted prior to half time.

After the break, Sam Brewer scored for Cannings to see them reclaim a 2 goal cushion just after the hour mark.  Back came Warminster with Oscar Williamson scoring to give them hope of taking to game to penalties, any hopes of that was end when Raczek scored his second of the after to wrap up a 4-2 win for Cannings.


Holt FC 2 Frome Collegians Reserves FC 5

COLLEGIANS GIVE HOLT A LESSON IN FINISHING

First division, Frome Collegians Reserves avoided a potential A&B Cup upset when they visited Second Division, Holt FC, a 5-2 success for Karl Freeman’s side was a seventh successive win for them in all competitions.

Frome Collegians were 2-0 up at half time and then 4-0, before troubled the scoreboard.  Dean Caslake marked his league debut for Frome with their opener, a first goal for the club for Lewis Connor made it 2-0.

After the break Ben Bullus added goal number three before Nathan Burrows made it 4-0 ahead of Joe Smith netting for Holt.

George Holland, another recent signing for Frome Collegians restored his team’s 4-goal cushion with another debut goal.  5-1 ahead, the tie was already won before Joe Laughton-Bakali netted a late second for Holt.


Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC 1 Bratton FC 8

BRATTON TOO STRONG FOR DILTON

Dilton Marsh Wanderers were drawn at home to Bratton for their Wiltshire Junior Cup clash, before the match was switched to Bratton’s home, where the now Wiltshire League, First division outfit turned on the style to run out 8-1 winners.

Bratton netted four goals in each half to claim their win, Dilton’s consolation coming from Dale Rowland who goal was a stunner.


Staverton Rangers FC 2 Aces 4

ACES MAKE PROGRESS IN A&B CUP

After tasting the champagne last weekend, following their first ever league success, Staverton Rangers had to settle for the taste of lemonade a week later after their narrowly lost out in their PAH Accountants sponsored A&B Cup clash against fellow second division side   Aces FC who had beaten them 9-2 in the league at the start of this month, but progressed thanks to a 4-2 triumph.

Things looked promising for Staverton when Sam Adeybanjo gave put them ahead, however they surrendered their lead to a Kegan Smart strike that saw parity restored before half time.

After the break Junior Smart put Aces 2-1 up and their lead was extended by Chris Vernier.

A second of the afternoon from Sam Adeybanjo got Staverton back in the contest but in trying to fashion an equaliser they were undone at the back and conceded a penalty which Junior Smart converted to seal Ace’s spot in the next round.


The Stiffs FC 2 Calne Eagles FC 5

EAGLES FLY INTO NEXT ROUND OF A&B CUP

Calne Eagles FC came out on top in their PAH Accounting sponsored A&B Cup clash away at second division stablemates The Stiffs who slumped to a 5-2 loss.

Calne Eagles who led 3-1 at half time, opened the scoring through Ewan McConnachie.  Luke Saunderson got the Stiffs back on level terms before Adam Welch gave the visitors to St Mary’s a 2-1 lead, Ben Cartmell added the third for an Eagles side who were now on top I nall departments.

A second for Adam Welch saw Eagles stretch their lead even further and although Lewis Keay netted a second for The Stiffs it was little more than a consolation as Jack Angell wrapped up Eagle’s 5-2 triumph.
