DIVISION TWO ROUND UP – 14th October 2023

Aces FC 3 Freshford United FC 6

FRESHFORD CHALK UP WIN NUMBER 7 OF THE SEASON

With a 2 point lead at the top of the Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, Second Division standings, Chris Birleson’s table topping Freshford United side faced to an unpredictable Aces at their Sullis Club home and a 6-3 win for the visitors saw them pick up another 3 points in their bid to return to Division One.

Freshford were thankful for a great first 45 minutes that saw them surge to a 4-0 interval lead, Frank Greenhalgh gave Freshford the lead and his second of the afternoon put the villagers well on top.  Andre Pintore made it 3-0 before Dan Sandford added a fourth to effectively hand the away team victory.

After the break, win number seven of the campaign looked nailed on when Matt Bond fired home a fifth for Birleson’s side.  Aces, Mike Little pulled a goal back for the Bath based side before Reece Mortimer took his tally to 12 for the season with the visitors sixth of the afternoon.

A second from Mike Little and a Will Self effort saw Aces make the score line look a little more respectable, but in truth they had been well beaten by Freshford who will only have themselves to blame should they will out on a top two finish come next April.

Semington Magpies FC 4 Bishops Cannings FC 1

MAGPIES CONTINUE WINNING RUN

Bishops Cannings Reserves arrived at an inform Semington Magpies outfit on the back of two 11-1 defeats and in fear of suffering another big loss at the hands of Neil Taylor’s side who have lost just once this term. Cannings may have suffered a 4-1 defeat, but they will take heart from what was one of their best performances for a while.
