TIGERS ROAR BACK TO END LOSING RUN

Trowbridge Town Tigers fell behind to a goal from Lloyd Johnson-Cooper, who must have thought than when he netted on 42 minutes, his Bishops Cannings Reserves  side would have gone it at the break 1-0 up, however that wasn’t to be the case as Tommy Luckman restored parity on 45 minutes to takes the teams into the interval as 1-apiece.

Both teams had chances to take the lead in the second half, however neither team could find a breakthrough and add to their first half goals until Trowbridge Tigers edged themselves in front in the 80th minute courtesy of a second goal of the season from Aaron Hahnefeld.

Any thought Bishops Cannings may have had of getting back into the contest were ended by Youssef Qisori who 6 minutes from time bagged his first goal for the Tigers since his switch from Staverton Rangers, to seal a 3-1 triumph and maximum points for Tim Brown’s side.

Aces FC 1 Hilperton Greyhound FC 5

GREYHOUND SEE OFF GALLANT ACES

Bath based Aces FC struggled to put a team out for the visit of Hilperton Greyhound and their 12 man squad must have been one of the oldest ever field in the history of the League and although they suffered a 5-1 defeat Mike Robbins side should be commended for playing the match when for much of the week and even on the afternoon of the match Greyhound thought that they would postpone it.

Ace put up a gallant defence and were only 3-0 down at half time after they were undone by a 3 goal blast in 7 first half minutes.  Ellis Farion may have scored the opener on 26 minutes after being set up by Gavin Francis, after that the afternoon belong to Francis who score on 28 and 32 minutes after being assisted by Ayhan Rtabi and Cori Brewer.

The second half it was largely dominated by Greyhound but Aces pulled one back through Lewis Baldwin but then tiredness crept in and Aces conceded two more before the end, Farion grabbing his second of the contest from a Darren Brewer assist on 70 minutes and Francis putting the icing on the cake with his third of the afternoon which came after good work from recent signing Jack Chandler.

For the losers a 5-1 defeat was a good result in the circumstances.

POINTS SHARED IN TOP OF THE TABLE THRILLER

Calne Eagles FC and fellow promotion hopefuls The Stiffs FC fought out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Eagles, Beversbrook base.  The Stiffs who started the day in second spot came from behind to lead 2-1 before conceded an equaliser, which allowed the hosts after 5 outings to hold on to their unbeaten start to the season.

The Stiffs who last season amassed 14 points from 24 matches, showed that their good start to the new campaign hasn’t been a fluke, Billy Wilkins-Pratt with his first goal of the season fashioned an equaliser, before Jake Davies put the visitors 2-1 and on course for a massive 3 points.

Calne Eagles who had won their opening four matches, weren’t ready to surrender their good start and battled back to claim a share of the spoils, Karl Sharratt netting the all-important equaliser that levelled things up at 2-2 to ensure both teams took something home from an entertaining encounter that could have gone either way.

FRESHFORD PROVE TOO GOOD FOR HOLT

Holt FC who started the day in fourth place welcomed leaders Freshford United to their High Street ground for what was expected to be a true test of both teams title credentials and on this showing Freshford who won the game 6-1 showed they should be up there come the end of the season while the hosts are still a work in progress, but will no doubt keep improving as the season goes on.

Holt actually opened the scoring through Kieran Plummer, however all that did was wake the visitors up despite falling behind, Chris Birleson’s side were 2-1 ahead at the break. Rhys Gibbens restored parity for Freshford before Dan Birleson gave them the lead.

The second period saw them hit four unanswered goals, Andrea Pintore made it 3-1, an eighth goal of the season for Mark Maguire extended the gap before Dan Birleson scored goals five and six to complete the scoring for the current pacesetters, which sealed a 6-1 win, that in turn saw them open up a 5 point lead at the top of the table.
