DEVIZES CROWNED KINGS OF DIVISION TWO
Park United FC 2 FC Devizes United 4
For the first time this season FC Devizes United have reached the summit of the Division Two table, and for Evan Webster’s team their timing couldn’t have been any better. A 4-2 triumph over Park United FC who themselves needed just a point from the top of the table clash to be crowned champions was a fitting finale to a season that stated way back last August.
Park who thumped Devizes 6-0 when the sides met earlier in the season, had to settle for the runners-up spot as they were beaten by the better side on the day.
Goals from Jordan Anning and Kamran Muhid put Devizes 2-0 up before Jamie Norman halved the deficit for Park prior to half time.
The next goal was always going to be massive and it was Devizes who struck was was a killer blow when Archie Haggerty made it 3-1. Carl Ledbury put Devizes 4-1 ahead and although leading scorer Darrin Moss bagged his 26th goal of the season to give Park a way back into the game it was a case of too little, too late as Devizes had done enough to snatch the title away for their rivals.
The Lodge FC 3 Freshford United 1
A 3-1 defeat away at The Lodge FC means that Freshford United FC dropped below their hosts in the final standings of the season..
A Clinton Hartley double along with a Taylor Kitley effort put the Lodge 3-0 ahead, Dan Birleson pulled a goal back for Freshford, but it was to be just a consolation as neither team could add to their first half efforts and the second half was really a non event as the Lodge held on to what they had to claim the 3 points on offer.
The Stiffs FC 1 Freshford United 4
The Stiffs completed their season on Tuesday evening with a 4-1 defeat at home to Freshford United who will complete their season on Saturday with a trip to The Lodge who were unable to raise a team on Tuesday evening to play FC Devizes United.
Freshford fell behind to a David Russam goal, before the first of the evening for Ryan Muirhead got Freshford back on level term. A second from Muirhead put the visitors to St Mary’s 2-1 up at half time.
Muirhead completed his hat trick from the penalty spot after the break to make it 3-1.
Dan Sandiford took over the penalty duties and his cool finish from the spot to make it 4-1 sealed 3 points for Chris Birleson’s side.
