PARK UNITED & FC DEVIZES UNITED TAKE TITLE RACE TO THE WIRE
The Lodge FC 0 Park United FC 5
A brilliant first half performance from Park United FC away at The Lodge FC laid the platform for their 21st victory of the season and moved them to the top of the table on the penultimate weekend of the season.
Lewis McCarron gave Park the lead, Aaron Leask doubled the advantage before McCarron added his second and Park’s third. Alex Hillier scored a fourth before half time.
After the break the goals may have dried up, however a Dan Walker strike wrapped up the 5-0 success to set up what should be a title decider at home to FC Devizes United next Saturday.
Freshford United FC 3 FC Devizes United 5
Freshford United and FC Devizes United were involved in an 8-goal thriller that didn’t seem likely at point as Devizes led 4-0 at one point before Freshford fought back to set up a nervy finish for the title hopefuls who eventually got over the line, courtesy of a 5-3 triumph.
A first half double for Charlie Strickland and one from Oscar Webster put Devizes well on top and when Bradley Whitbread scored in the second half to make it 4-0, it really should have been game over.
Freshford had other ideas and clawed their way back into the match via goals from Chris Birleson and Dan Birleson to halve the deficit. Declan McStravick restored a 3-goal cushion for Devizes, who then conceded a third when Waleed Bakali netted to make things interesting once more. Freshford had a big appeal for a penalty turned down and they had another chance cleared off the line, but chances they just could find the net again as Devizes held on to claim the 3 points.
