DIVISION TWO ROUND UP – 22nd APRIL 2023

TOP THREE WIN AGAIN AS THE BID FOR PROMOTION

A 5-1 victory for Park United FC away at bottom of the table Staverton Rangers FC keeps Darrin Moss side on top the Gooding Accounts – sponsored Trowbridge League Second Division.

With their usual pitch at Bowerhill unplayable Staverton switched the match to Stanley Park, the usual home of their opponents.

Having already beaten Staverton 9-2 and 10-1 this season Park would have expected a similar score line especially after  racing to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Charlie and Jamie Norman. However a goal from Haken Blackmore saw the hosts half the deficit, but it was just to be a consolation as Ben Selman restored Park’s 2 goal advantage before the break.

Conner McCarron and Charlie Norman with his second of the afternoon scored after the break to seal 3 more points for Park in their bid for the number one spot.

FC Devizes United 3 The Lodge FC 0

FC Devizes United showed they are very much up for the fight to be champions, after losing to Heytesbury in the final of the Knockout Cup on Tuesday evening, they were then awarded their Thursday evening match when opponents Hilperton Greyhound were unable to raise a team.

Saturday afternoon saw them face The Lodge for the first time this season and they had to be at their best to claim a 3-0 win that keeps them 9 points behind leaders Park United, however they have 3 matches in hand on their rivals and should they win all of them then the title will be decided when the teams meet on the final day of the season.

Kassa Anderson and Jordan Anning with two shared the goals for Devizes.

Dilton Marsh Wanderers 2 Aces FC 1

Dilton Marsh Wanderers and Aces FC were in action for the last time this season and  like the first meeting between the teams back in September that Dilton won 4-1 they took the spoils again thanks to a 2-1 success.

First half goals from Loui Stillman and Mark Payne set Dilton up for looked to be another comfortable win, but Aces came back well in the second period, but although Dan Hatcher gave them a lifeline his goal was a case of too little, too late as Dilton held on to claim an 11th win of the campaign and a top half of the table finish.

Heytesbury Reserves FC 0 Bradford Town ‘A’ FC 4

Bradford Town ‘A’ followed up their nail-biting 2-1 midweek success over The Stiffs with a far more convincing 4-0 triumph away at Heytesbury Reserves FC for whom it was their final outing of the season.

Leading 1-0 at the break via a Arthur Dolan goal, Bradford scored 3 unanswered second half goals to claim their latest win, which just about keeps in in the race for a top two finish.  Lewis Baden Olly Sterling and a second from Dolan seeing Bradford to victory.

The Stiffs FC 1 Hilperton Greyhound 0

Hilperton Greyhound suffered a 1-0 defeat away at The Stiffs.  Aaron Stephenson scoring the first half winner in a game that finished with Hilperton Greyhound down to 9 players having had Harvey Frisby and Adam Stevens sent off.
