KNOCKOUT CUP – SPONSORED BY CHANTRY DIGITAL LTD – SEMI FINALS

The semi finals of The Knockout Cup – sponsored by Chantry Digital Ltd were contested today with all four teams looking for a place in this season’s final.

POTTERNE FC 7 HEYTESBURY FC 2

SEVEN UP POTTERNE REACH THE FINAL

It is often said a week is a long time in politics, but it is also true in football.

Just one week ago Potterne lost The A & B Cup semi final against Seend United while Heytesbury were celebrating reaching the final with a win against Hilperton United.

This week the shoe was on the other foot with Potterne reaching the final of The Knockout Cup – sponsored by Chantry Digital Ltd with a thumping 7 – 2 win over Heytesbury.

Potterne started quickly and Ash Huntley settled any nerves with the first goal after 4 minutes when he rounded the keeper to slot the ball home.

A tidy finish from Wayne House made it two for Potterne on 8 minutes before Lee Sanders hit a great strike from the edge of the area to make it 3 – 0 on 25 minutes.

Heytesbury had a chance to pull a goal back on the half hour but missed from the spot and were made to pay a minute later when Wayne House scored his second and Potterne’s fourth when he headed home after Ash Huntley rattled the crossbar.

Heytesbury refused to lie down and pulled one back just before the break when Reece Collyer scored from the spot to make it 4 – 1 at the interval.

Heytesbury started the second half well and pulled another goal back just after the hour mark when Adam Welch made it 4 – 2.

This seemed to spur Potterne on again and on 72 minutes Wayne House topped off an excellent performance to score a fifth for the Division Two side to complete his hat-trick.

Five minutes later Matt Tilley made it 6 – 2 and with nine minutes left Tilley struck again for his second and Potterne’s seventh to start the celebrations.

The final of The Knockout Cup – sponsored by Chantry Digital Ltd will be an all Division Two affair with Potterne FC facing Seend United.

The final will be played at Meadow Lane, Westbury on Tuesday 3rd May with a 7.45pm kick-off.

WESTBURY UNITED RESERVES 1 SEEND UNITED 3

TWO FINALS IN A WEEK FOR SEEND UNITED

Seend United made it two finals in a week with an excellent performance to beat Westbury United Reserves 3 – 1 in the semi final of The Knockout Cup – sponsored by Chantry Digital Ltd.

A brace from Matt Purdy and a single effort from Paul Gittens saw Seend United into an all Division Two final against Potterne FC.

Max Bishop was on the scoresheet for Westbury United Reserves, who also failed to convert a penalty seven minutes from time which could have caused a grandstand finish.
