FRIDAY 4th FEBRUARY 2022
This weekend opened with a Friday night fixture under the lights as Westbury United Reserves welcomed Bromham Owls to The Gooding Accounts Ground, Meadow Lane for a Group C fixture in The Spring Cup – sponsored by Gooding Accounts Ltd.
GROUP C
WESTBURY UNITED RESERVES 6 BROMHAM OWLS 1
WESTBURY CLAIM THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

Chris Steele netted a brace for Westbury United Reserves who after an evenly matched first 45 minutes at home to Bromham Owls overpowered their guests in the second period of their Friday night match at The Gooding Accounts, Meadow Lane, Westbury to run out 6-1 victors and claim a third straight win in Group C of this seasons Gooding Accounts Ltd – sponsored Spring Cup competition.
Westbury who had been held at bay by their second division opponents, took the lead on 20 minutes, when an error in the Owls defence gifted Chris Steele with an easy tap-in to put Westbury 1-0 up.
Minutes later, Bromham were handed the chance to restore parity, when they were awarded a free kick some 25 yards from goal, however the usually reliable Sam Wallis fired his effort over the bar.
Westbury went close to doubling their advantage, with only a brilliant fingertip save from keeper Dan Wheeler keeping out Steele’s goal bound header.
With the score at half time being 1-0 to the hosts, Bromham would have fancied their chances of getting back into the game, however those chances went in the opening 10 minutes of the second period, as three quick fire goals put Westbury firmly in the driving seat.
On 50 minutes, Chris Steel made it 2-0 with a brilliantly placed free kick. 4 minutes later, Max Bishop rose highest to head home a Cam Dawes corner for 3-0 and on 56 minutes, Caleb Englefield turned a Tyler Gane cross into his own to make it 4-0.
Westbury were certainly in the driving seat and could have had a few more goals before they added their fifth which came on 58 minutes, Tyler Gane who had blasted a penalty against the bar a minute earlier, atoned for his error, when he pounced on an error from the keeper Wheeler and made it 5-0.
Bromham’s keeper was at fault for Westbury’s sixth, having outpaced his marker, Louis Wilkins fired a shot across the face of the goal which Wheeler looked to have covered, however he somehow spilled the ball over the line to give their hosts their sixth of the night.
Bromham did get themselves on the scoresheet and although, Taylor Ellicock’s 82nd minute strike was little more than a consolation, it was well worth the wait, as his rasping drive from 18 yards, gave the Westbury keeper no chance.
